Reverse Showrooming

It’s more important than ever this year to shop at locally owned businesses here in Waterloo Region. LRT construction is seemingly every where and many of your favourite stores are feeling the pain. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about some of my favourite places to holiday and birthday shop around our community.
Words Worth Books
Hopefully the person you’re buying for knows how to read. If they do, then the place to go is Words Worth Books on King Street in Uptown. I like to reverse showroom there. What’s reverse showrooming? Well, first –

show·room·ing (ˈSHōˌro͞omiNG/). The practice of visiting a store or stores in order to examine a product before buying it online at a lower price.

With reverse showrooming, I find the book I want to buy on Amazon and then show it to owner David Worsley (or one of their other amazing staff). Nine times out of ten, they have the book in stock. If not, it’s simple to order and then pick up in a few days.

Today, I picked up two books for my wife for Christmas. David recommended another title that I’m going to put on my list for Santa. Human recommendations will always trump an algorithm for me.

What books are you looking forward to reading?
